The concept behind these hydro-massaging systems is a series of jets that will provide a powerful flow of water to massage you. Whirlpool systems supply water to these jets by circulating water from the tub through suction mechanisms located at the bottom of the tub and mixing it with the air supply.

It is important that you research this carefully. Even better is if you are able to find a store that will allow you to test the units before you purchase one. Or maybe you have friends that have one that you can test out.

Also, you need to pay attention to how long the water temperature is maintained before having to add more hot water. Some units will hold the temperature longer than others with around a half an hour being pretty common. If you plan to spend less time than that in the tub, you will be fine.

Another option to consider is an airspa. These units achieve a very similar effect but accomplish this by using air pressure rather than circulating water. The force of the air through the water creates the massaging action. The massage can feel weaker than that of a whirlpool but is not always the case. Again, a test drive is recommended to ensure that you get the right unit for your needs.

Another difference between an airspa and a whirlpool is the maintenance of water temperature. The design of an airspa, the use of air to generate the water force, will cause the water to cool faster than a whirlpool. This makes sense as the air injected is cooler than the water in the tub.

Both systems will require similar maintenance in order to keep them clean. The manufacturers will have their own standards and cleaners. But you should be prepared to follow a regular cleaning schedule that is typically every three months.

For a great relaxation experience, a whirlpool or airspa system is a good investment. Hydro massage has proven therapeutic benefits and just feels good. The most important thing to keep in mind is that you need to test a few before you purchase one to make sure that you get a great fit for you and your home.
